Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta (born October 10, 1865 in London, died February 26, 1930 in the Vatican) – Spanish Catholic priest, Vatican diplomat, secretary of state, cardinal, Servant of God.

Servant of God Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val was an outstanding figure of the church from the beginning of the 20th century. He was the closest collaborator of Pius X, secretary of state of the Holy See, and after the death of the Holy Pope, secretary of the Holy Office. He died in 1930. After withdrawing from the public affairs of the Church, he wrote the Litany of Humility.

On February 26, 1953, his beatification process began.

 

Omnipotens sempiterne Deus, qui gloriam tuam manifestas per humilitatem, et exemplum integritatis religionis, per odium modernismi et per castigationem mortificationemque carnis servi tui Raphaelis Merry del Val, praesta, quaesumus, si conforme voluntati tuae sit, ut eum intercessione eius in terra glorifices per beneficium …. quod ferventer imploramus per Cor Sacratissimum pro gloria tua et gloria Matris Mariae doloris quam piissime diligebat. Amen.
